What does it mean to be a hero?

What does it take to be a hero?

I write fantasy and science fiction short stories and novels that explore heroism. Heroism isn’t about power and it isn’t about moral purity. Real heroes struggle even as they try to do the right thing.

For thirty-one years, I was an aerospace engineer dedicated to getting high performing cameras into space to help us understand and monitor the Earth’s environment. I met a lot of quiet heroes doing that. These days, the heroes I write about aren’t that quiet.
