Since her first novel, Time of the Dark, in 1982, Barbara Hambly has written fantasy, science fiction, historical whodunnits, respectable historical novels, horror, graphic novels, media tie-ins, and Saturday morning cartoons. Recently she has concentrated on the well-reviewed historical mystery Benjamin January series, and the Asher/Ysidro vampire series, both for Severn House, UK (though all of her backlist is currently available through Open Road Media). The next Benjamin January mystery, House of the Patriarch, will appear in October; she is currently working on what she hopes will be the first of a new mystery series set in 1920s Hollywood. She also writes short fiction about the further adventures of characters from her fantasy novels of the ‘80s and ‘90s, which can be purchased via download on either Amazon Kindle Direct or Smashwords.
She also teaches history at a local community college. Her other occupations are painting, cosplay, and iaido.
Now a widow, she lives in Los Angeles with several small carnivores.
