Ray Buland

Ray Buland has a BS in Physics and a PhD in Solid Earth Geophysics. He has published articles on topics ranging from free oscillations of the Earth and moment tensors to earthquake location, seismic travel-time computation, and travel-time/magnitude residual statistics. During his career at the US Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center, he did basic and applied research, developed computational algorithms and seismic processing systems, created the US National Seismograph Network, and was instrumental in developing the National Operation Center of the Advanced National Seismic System. In 2011, Ray was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for his body of work.
