John Barnes was once moderately well-known in SF publishing, with over 30 titles at major publishers between 1987 and 2013. Works closest to his heart are Tales of the Madman Underground and One For the Morning Glory. Best-selling are Directive 51, Mother of Storms, and his collaborations with Buzz Aldrin. Fans seem to like his "Thousand Cultures" series (begins with A Million Open Doors) and "Century Next Door" tetralogy (Orbital Resonance, Kaleidoscope Century, Candle, and The Sky So Big and Black). He has not finished a book in five years, which he is again trying to remedy this year.
