Programming Highlights

There's a ton of programming this year, starting with six full tracks at 2 pm on Friday. We hope you can show up early and stay late! Here’s a handful of highlights for each day.
Friday:  Writing panels like Great Opening and Ending Lines and Worldbuilding: Things Every Author Should Know. Science programs on genetic engineering and climate change. Jason Heller interviewing GoH John Varley about his Gaea trilogy (Titan, Wizard, Demon).  A special presentation by award-winning SFX makeup designer Todd Debreceni.  Three local podcasters interview Carrie Vaughn in a podcast triptych. Opening ceremonies and the GoH Autograph Alley. A concert by Phee, and much more!
Saturday: Hours with GoHs John Varley and Julie Dillon. A look behind the scenes of the upcoming Star Wars™ and the Power of Costume exhibition. History of Space Art. Science programs including a Mars update, a presentation on gravity waves, and Dr Science’s High School Science Test. Make a mask at the Mask Table or Name That Sci-Fi Tune. Blind Submission: The Live Slush Panel. Five Ways to Give Your Writing Razzle-Dazzle with Connie Willis. Mass Author Autographing and May the Geek Be With Your T-Shirt Showcase. Brewing/Vintning Meetup.  Masquerade/Cosplay Contest. Flash Fiction Fairy Tales/Bedtime Stories … with Cookies!  Guilty Pleasures: The Best Bad Stuff I Like. Welcome to Night Vale reader’s theater and discussion. Also, group readings, literary/writing panels, costuming/cosplay programs, gaming panels, fan forums and more!

Sunday: Critter Crunch (2- and 20-pounders). Guest of Honor Remarks and art auction. Open Mic Author Reading.  Panels including 31 Flavors of Dystopia, Can AIs Have Souls?, Do SF Stories Avoid Dealing with Money?, and The Villain Complex: For Best Results, Don’t Keep ’Em Simple. Alien Archaeology. An Hour with Chaz Kemp. The Art of Julie Dillon. The Costume Exchange. Science programs on the Kepler missions, the future of the automobile, and whether scientific illiteracy is on the rise. Rockets, Robots & Rayguns Trivia. Paint an Exploding TARDIS with Blue Jasmine Studio, and much more!

The Active Track is taking shape. We are looking forward to boldly going forward with new activities and recurring favorites.

•The USS Pioneer will be reprising their popular Junkyard Derby. 

•Join authors Amalie Howard and Kristi Helvig for the Survival Game. 

•On Friday afternoon test your science fiction, fantasy, and horror knowledge for chocolate.

•Saturday morning join Zombie master Stan Yan to draw the Zombie in the Basement.

• Richard Blake will be teaching a writing workshop for all ages in the Whoniverse.

•Echoes in Space will be bringing their popular karaoke back on Saturday night after the masquerade (CosPlay).

•Additionally, there will be at least one paint and take session (separate cost from the convention) with Blue Jasmine.

•Patty Pietu returns with her popular leather mask making classes (beginners and advanced - $30 each).
